Antibiotics
An antibiotic is a type of antimicrobial substance active against bacteria. It is the most important type of antibacterial agent for fighting bacterial infections, and antibiotic medications are widely used in the treatment and prevention of such infections. They may either kill or inhibit the growth of bacteria.
Gentamicin (50 mg/mL)
Gentamicin sulfate is a water-soluble antibiotic originally purified from the fungus Micromonospora purpurea. Gentamicin acts by binding to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome leading to inhibition of protein synthesis and death in susceptible bacteria. Gibco™ Gentamicin is effective against a wide variety of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, and is used to prevent the contamination of cell cultures by bacteria. The recommended working concentration ranges from 0.5 to 50 µg /mL.
